Participants study at Golden Int’l Language Academy (GILA) in the teaching of Mandarin Chinese at the advanced beginning, pre-intermediate, intermediate, advanced and gold levels.
Intensive, personalized classroom instruction is supplemented, private tutorials and daily practice with Chinese conversation partners chosen from the GILA student.
Home-stays with Chinese families, group excursions in and around Beijing, lectures by local experts come from GILA and a week long travel break for independent exploration of China give students insight into Chinese society and lifestyle, and provide students with a variety of environments in which to use their language skills.
Language Pre-requisites
Students must speak fluent English.
Orientation
Upon arrival in Beijing, students take part in a comprehensive orientation session, beginning with the introduction of program GILA faculty. Discussion topics include practical advice about living in China, and the customs and cultures students will likely encounter during their stay. The orientation also includes a tour of the campus and the surrounding neighborhood. A language placement test is also administered
Excursions and Cultural Activities
Excursions
The program includes several group trips to historic and cultural sites. Destinations will include the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven, and performances by the Dance Party.
Cultural Activities Workshops in Chinese traditional dance, social dance, and Latin dance will be available.
Program students will participate with GILA students in roundtable discussions and an end-of-program talent show. Local experts are invited to speak about contemporary topics such as the Chinese history, art, and culture, economy, and doing business in China.
Housing and Meals
Students will arrange to live hotel or with GILA student’s families, to eat Chinese food and west-style food.
Home-stay
Host families are GILA students. Program students will have share a room with Chinese students or American students in an air-conditioned room, dinners included, Broadband Internet is available.

Courses
Classes meet intensively for seven hours each day and range in class size less 20 students (included 20 students). Requirements for each course include daily quizzes, weekly tests, and final exams if you want. All students also meet with their Chinese conversation partners every day.

Program Fee $4,800.00/per student
This fee covers teaching, books and tapes, housing, orientation, and excursions and cultural activities. It does not cover airfare, visa fees, accident/medical insurance, some meals, housing during the one-week travel break, and personal expenses.
